Alabama Driving Permits

Driving School
At driving school, an individual will be taught the laws and regulations of driving in Alabama. The goal is to be able to pass a written examination when applying for your Learners Permit. Overall, driving school can be a fun experience and often does not interfere very much with a persons life.
Requirements for a Learners Permit are:
- Must be at least 15 years of age
- Social Security Card or proof of Social Security Number
- A Certified U.S. Birth Certificate
- Cash Payment $5 for the examination
- Cash Payment $23 to purchase the Learners License
However, if you are 16 years of age you may provide:
- Two forms of identification, including one picture ID
- Social Security Car or proof of Social Security Number
- Proof of School enrollment or graduation
- Cash payment $5 for the examination

However, Alabama's permits come with restrictions:
- If you are 15 years of age you must be accompanied by a parent,
guardian, or another driver age 21 or older. - If you are between the ages of 16 and 17, who's had their learners
license for less than 6 months may not operate a vehicle from
midnight - 6 AM unless they are accompanied by an adult, are driving
to/from work, school or religious event, or are driving for an
emergency.
Full Driving Privileges
A person under 18 years old may not apply for a permit until they have had
their permits / learners license for at least 6 months.
The student must also complete a minimum of 30 hours behind the wheel
training with a licensed adult
