Minnesota Driving Permits
Minnesota participates in the Graduated Licensing Program. As a result, there are three tiers of Licesing options:
Requirements for Instruction Permit
- Must be at least 15 years of age
- Must have completed 30 hours of classroom instruction and enrolled in BTW training
- Pass Vision Test
- Pass Written exam
- Parent signature
- Proof of citizenship and birth certificate.
- Proof of residence
Restrictions:
- Must drive with adult 21 years or older
- No cell phone use
Requirements for Provisional License
- Must be at least 16 years of age
- Completed driver education
- Must haved had permit for at least 6 months
- Pass road test
- Pass vision test
- Completed 30 hours of supervised driving by an adult
- Parent signature
Restrictions:
- No cell phone use
- Cannot drive minors for 6 months
