Pennsylvania Driving Permits

Getting a Driving Permit in Pennsylvania is relatively easy.

All you need is to be at least 16 years old and have the required paperwork. However, you have to pass a Drivers ED course to be able to apply for a full license.

Requirements for a Drivers Permit

  • Must be at least 16 years of age
  • Valid Birth Certificate
  • Valid Social Security Number
  • Pass a vision Test
  • Pass a Written Test
  • Parental consent and Signature

 

Restrictions

You can drive as long as you are accompanied by another driver who is at least 21 years old.

You cannot drive with more than two other riders under the age of 21 unless they are immediate family.

The only passenger allowed in the front seat with you is the accompanying driver.

Requirements for a Provisional License

  • Must be at least 16 1/2 Years old
  • Must have held a permit for at least 6 months
  • Must have had at least 20 hours of supervised driving
  • Must have completed a Drivers ED course and provide proof
  • Valid Birth Certificate
  • Valid Social Security Number
  • Pass a vision test
  • Pass a written test
  • Pass a road skills test
  • Parental consent and signature

Restrictions

  • You cannot drive between 11 PM and 5 AM without a licensed adult supervising (Does not apply to 17 year olds)
  • Regular License
