Tennessee Driving Permits

Getting a drivers permit in Tennessee is relatively easy. Basically all you need is the required forms and papers.
Requirements for a Learner Permit

  • You must be at least 15 years old
  • Appear in person at a driver's license examination station.
  • Present a valid birth certificate or other acceptable identification
  • Must present two proofs of Tennessee Residency
  • Proof of School Attendance / Progress
  • Pass a written test
  • Pass a vision test
  • Have Parent Consent or Signature on application.
  • Pay the required fees

Restrictions

  • Must drive with a licensed adult 18 years or older

Requirements for an Intermediate Drivers License

  • You must be at least 16 years old.
  • Must have held a permit for at least 180 days
  • Appear in person at a driver's license examination station.
  • Present a valid birth certificate or other acceptable identification.
  • Must present two proofs of Tennessee Residency
  • Pass a Road Test
  • Parental Consent and Signature
  • Must have completed 50 hours of supervised driving (10 at night)
  • Pay the required fees

Restrictions

  • Cannot have more than one passenger under 18 years of age (Unless Immediate Family Members)
  • Cannot drive between Midnight and 5AM unsupervised unless for an emergency / work related situation

Requirements for a Full License

  • Must be at least 18 Years old
  • Must present two proofs of Tennessee Residency
  • Pass a written test
  • Pass a Vision Test
  • Pass a road test
  • Appear in person at  a drivers license examination Station
  • Present a valid birth certificate
  • Valid Social Security Number
  • Pay a $35 Fee
