West Virginia Driving Permits

Getting a drivers permit in West Virginia is relatively easy. Basically all one needs is the required forms and papers.

However, an individual under 18 has to provide proof of enrollment in a certified Drivers ED course.

Requirements for a Level I Instruction Permit

  • You must be at least 15  years old.
  • Appear in person at a driver's license examination station.
  • Present a valid birth certificate or other acceptable identification.
  • Pass a written test
  • Pass a vision test
  • Have Parent Consent or Signature on application.
  • Pay the Required Fees
  • Present proof of enrollment in a certified Drivers ED Course
  • Proof of enrollment or graduation from High School

Restrictions

  • Must drive with a licensed adult 18 years or older

Requirements for an a Level II Instruction Permit (Probationary License)

  • You must be at least 16 years old.
  • Must have held a permit for at least 6 months
  • Appear in person at a driver's license examination station.
  • Present a valid birth certificate or other acceptable identification.
  • Pass a written test
  • Pass a vision test
  • Pass a Road Test
  • Parental Consent and Signature
  • Have completed 30 hours of supervised driving
  • Pay the required fees.

Restrictions

  • Cannot have more than one passenger under 18 years of age (Unless Immediate Family Members)
  • Cannot drive between 11PM and 5AM unsupervised unless for an emergency / work related situation

Requirements for a Full License

  • Must be at least 17 Years old
  • Pass a written test
  • Pass a Vision Test
  • Pass a road test
  • Have a parent sign a release form
  • Appear in person at  a drivers license examination Station
  • Present a valid birth certificate
  • Valid Social Security Number
  • Pay the required Fees
